John Dorn bio
John Dorn is has been teaching for over 30 years. Before joining the Lakeside family, he taught for 13 years at Illinois Lutheran High School, Crete. 6 years at Salem Lutheran in Stillwater, MN and 10 years at Good Shepherd in West Bend, WI.
A 1992 grad from Dr. Martin Luther College, Dorn will teach Computer Essentials to the freshmen class this year. “There are so many cool and useful sites and software to use these days. I love exploring with the students what you can do and how to use these tools in a God pleasing and efficient manner” he says. In addition, he looks forward to “sharing God's grace with the students I am blessed to teach.”
For extracurriculars, he’ll be heading up the student council this year.
Dorn and his wife, Mary, have been married 31 years. Mary is loving her new job, taking care of our 2 grandchildren. We have been blessed with 5 children. Our oldest, Nicole, lives in Lake Mills with her husband, Jason, and our two grandchildren, Leah and Mara. Eric (a familiar face at Lakeside) and his twin sister came next. Alli and her husband, Luke, teach in Stillwater, MN. (Fun fact? Eric's twin sister Allison married a guy with the same last name, Luke Dorn. The wedding hashtag was #Dornagain.) Emma will be starting her 2nd year of teaching in Salem, Oregon and Elijah, the youngest, just married Emma (Nelson) and will be teaching at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School this year.
Mary and I enjoy riding our bicycles around Lake Mills. We still find it hard to believe that we live in the same city as 2 of our children. It's just not very common when you have 3 families of teachers all in the same area. I also love cooking, and watching the Packers. He also admits that he’s “a bit of a tech geek also. The more gadgets the better.”
Ultimately, he sums up his life: “Five kids, 2 grandbabies (more to come!!), 31 years of marriage and ministry, and blessed beyond belief. God is good.”
