In 2021, with the last of our mortgage loans paid off, your LLHS became debt free. This allows us to be Free to Act! We now have the privilege of planning for the future with building renovation and upgrades.

Why update? A number of places in the school are original—and kept in great shape thanks to our buildings and grounds team. However, with decades of use and expanding enrollment, it's time to add a fresh look, while improving functionality.

What's on our list? After the debt was paid off, teachers and staff were invited to share what areas of LLHS needed some attention. After all, they are the ones working in this space the most.

Some of their ideas have already been implemented, such as a modification of the faculty workroom, locker room renovation, updated media center/study hall space, improved visitor seating for the outdoor competition field, a West Gym Renovation, and remodeled the videography room. $1.2 million in projects were completed debt free, thanks to our generous supporters.

What’s now? Phase 2!
This $3.5 million project broke ground in April 2024 (after 80% of budget had been raised) and features:
> Expansion of cafeteria by 2,600 sq. ft (doubling current space)
Allows seating for over 300 students per lunch period
Maximizes serving space for easier and quicker serving time
Accommodates growing enrollment with expanded kitchen prep space
> Redesign of main entrance
Allows for needed space for the main entrance and clear identification
Helps front office operations with more space and helpful features
> Making lobby restrooms fully ADA-compliant, plus
Modernization of restrooms with a total makeover

Phase 1—West Gym Reno

Phase 2—Caf/Entry Addition

Phase 3—We're already planning for and praying about next steps and wise spending in the future.

Phase 1—This ran from 2021-2023 and included a faculty workroom update, locker room renovation, media center/study hall remodel, improved visitor seating for the outdoor competition field, a West Gym renovation, and videography studio remodel. Together these cost just over $1.2 million and were successfully completed by 2023 without a loan.
For the West Gym Reno specifically, it accommodated approximately 650 guests with the new seating plan. In addition, this allows us to fill our practical need for a worship space for chapel. This helps Lakeside offer this new and improved chapel and fine arts seating experience for our students, staff, families and visitors. We kicked off this stage with Giving Tuesday in 2021, and you responded with over $54,000 in gifts.

Phase 2—This planning for this phase began in 2023. Lakeside broke ground on a building expansion and renovation on April 8. The project includes a more prominent main entrance and front lawn monument, a cafeteria and front office renovation and expansion, as well as renovated lobby restrooms. Existing interior renovations are expected to be complete in time for the start of the upcoming school year; the entire project, including the expanded cafeteria space and a renovated main entry, has a December 2024 planned completion date. The school held a small ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday, April 10, when administration, student and governing board representatives, as well as reps from general contractor Design 2 Construct (D2C), and major contributor Twice is Nice Resale Store, gathered to ask for God’s blessing on the undertaking. It carries a $3.5M cost, with 80% secured through private donations prior to groundbreaking.
